Seek and You Shall Find

Recently I was in Sedona, AZ with my family. It was a wonderful long weekend where we did some hiking, touring, eating, and of course,  for me, photography. I had researched places to go for photography and we hired a guide to take us to some of the sites and to tell us about others. We were able to get some amazing shots like the one above of the sunrise hitting Cathedral Rock.

One of our guides also gave tours of the Sedona vortexes, chakra pools and various yoga experiences. Very different than my own faith experience. It really struck me when he shared how men and women who were not necessarily looking for a spiritual experience would find one in these locations.

As I sat at (or near!) one of these vortex locations and looked at this view I had to think about these liminal spaces in creation that are so amazing that we can’t help but experience the divine. The holy. We go to these places and we know something that we can’t prove. We can feel what we can’t see. Instinctively all of us, regardless of our faith, are searching for what we can’t quite see in the world around us. We tend to know it is there but it takes some searching. And when we find it, we are blessed.

I loved hearing from someone who left his Catholic roots share about his experiences with this power. I loved hearing about people who came to this beautiful corner of creation who experience this glimpse of what was intended—peace, wholeness, healing, joy—and what I believe will eventually come to pass, no matter how messy our world is today.  Thanks be to God.

My awesome parents and husband climbing for the view!

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8, NIV)

  1. I felt more calm just seeing the pictures. Friday, Oct. 5, my only grandchild, Austin, a captain in the Marines is being married to Claire in Fredricksburg. Please pray that the holy spirit will be present at the wedding and in their marriage.
